No, this is not the Honda City. Okay, the testing model is using the body of the current City, but that’s all from the sedan version of the Jazz. The car manufacturer is actually using this testing mule for the new generation 2019 Honda Insight Hybrid. Yes, we know that the manufacturer canceled the slow-selling hybrid not so long ago, but Honda desperately needs a rival for the new generation Prius, so they will give a new try to the Insight nameplate.

2019 Honda Insight Hybrid: Powertrain

Unlike the predecessor which wasn’t too good example of a hybrid, the 2019 Honda Insight Hybrid promises to be a far better option. Moreover, the car manufacturer prepares both hybrid and plug-in hybrid models, which will use an all-new powertrain. Essentially, the technology is familiar already, but the drivetrain is completely new. According to information we have, the 2019 Insight Hybrid will rely on pretty much the same technology that uses the current Accord Hybrid. The main difference is that the car won’t feature a 2.0-liter engine. No, the gasoline part of the powertrain will likely have a bit smaller displacement, most likely 1.5. Of course, the mill will come in a pair with a two-motor hybrid system.

Styling and Technologies

Like we said already, the exterior styling won’t reach the production lines, simply because it’s just a testing mule. However, by looking the testing car, we can conclude that the 2019 Honda Insight Hybrid will be bigger than the City. As you can see, the car manufacturer needed to stretch and widen the car in order to accommodate mechanicals of the new Insight. Plus, the car will keep its hatchback body style without any doubt, while Honda might come up with some kind of semi-autonomous driving technology as well. That would definitely move the slow-selling nameplate on a higher level.

Estimated Price and Arrival

As we caught just the testing mule, we are pretty sure that the 2019 Honda Insight Hybrid won’t be ready for at least a year of even two. There is no official information regarding the price at the moment, but we are sure it’s going to cost almost the same as Toyota’s new generation Prius, which is around $24,400 for the base model.
