It’s pretty clear that the North American drivers won’t get the chance to ride the tiny S660 roadster, which is not bad news at all. The Japanese car manufacturer is cooking something better and bigger for US market, which should arrive in 2018 to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the company. Yes, the carmaker will definitely introduce the all-new 2018 Honda S2000, which will be based on Acura’s Precision concept.
2018 Honda S2000: Engine Specs and Platform
The upcoming roadster will have similar proportions as Mazda’s new Miata. However in contrast to the MX-5 that doesn’t have anything wild and crazy under the hood, Honda’s sports car will be one mighty machine. It’s not official yet, but we think it will use a turbocharged 2.0-liter engine that currently powers the Civic Type R. The engine should deliver around 310 horsepower and will power the rear wheels only. You could say that there is proper platform for this vehicle, but we assure you that Honda has two solutions for the issue.
The Japanese car producer will use either the existing architecture of the Acura Precision Concept, which must suffer some changes, or will build a new one from scratch. As you probably know, Hondas both sports car, the NSX and S660 have its own chassis, so it’s pretty clear that the 2018 Honda S2000 could get the all-new dedicated platform. The latest rumors further say that the S2000 successor should have less than 2900 pounds, but we are not so sure about this matter.
Styling and Price
There are no official words about the styling of the upcoming mid-engine sports car, but we think they will utilize plenty of details from the aforementioned concept. The overall design will be toned down, but the front end should stay pretty similar. A pentagon diamond mesh grille and ultra-aggressive headlights will stay, while the rear end could adopt the boomerang-stylized taillights. The 2018 S2000 could also keep the pronounced side skirts, while the fenders might become larger.
The interior of the sports car will be pretty the same to the S660’s. Well, not exactly the same, but more luxurious and better. The carmaker will add sets in sporty tone, as well as some interesting colors of the upholstery. Honda’s tech department will likely borrow everything good from the NSX supercar, so you can expect quite impressive kit inside.
There is nothing official regarding the arrival of the 2018 Honda S2000. However some rumors speculate it will be introduced at the 2018 Detroit Motor Show. The base price of the phenomenal car should be around $55,000, but this is just our opinion.
