2018 Honda NSX: Rumors, Performance, Price

Posted on

According to the latest reports, Honda is doing some final testing on its own NSX. Yes, aside from the luxury department Acura offers the supercar with the same nameplate the Japanese car manufacturer will reportedly offer a baby model, which will be named the 2018 Honda NSX. Based on the model year of production, the sporty vehicle should be ready pretty soon, most likely at the very beginning of the next year.

2018 Honda NSX: Powertrain Setup

Judging by the same rumors, the 2018 Honda NSX will be the spiritual successor of the iconic S2000. However, the new-in-house sports car will probably rely on some kind of hybrid powertrain. As far as we think, it will likely use Civic’s new 1.5-liter gasoline engine and a pair of electric motors, or perhaps with a single motor. The whole drivetrain would work similarly as it works under the hood of the Acura NSX. Of course, Honda’s NSX will deliver far more power. Let’s say it will be limited to 300 horsepower, which is still more than enough for decent performance. We hope to see nine-speed transmission and all-wheel drive as standard parts of the system.

Design and Rivals

Styling wise, the 2018 Honda NSX will probably look pretty much the same as the Acura’s flagship car. Of course, the baby NSX will definitely get a smaller footprint with less expensive materials and less standard equipment.

Still, by getting the similar drivetrain as the expensive sibling from the luxury department, the 2018 Honda NSX won’t be able to keep track with its traditional rivals such as Mazda RX-8. Instead, the sports car will likely fight in the same class as the current Porsche Cayman and Alfa Romeo 4C.

Estimated Price

That means that you will have to set aside a pretty serious amount of money for the S2000 successor. Some reports say that the 2018 Honda NSX can’t cost less from $40,000 and we agree. Moreover, we think that the car may not fit in the sum, so it could be priced even higher, perhaps from $50,000.
