Acura’s popular RDX is receiving a facelift for the next year. We know that because we managed to catch a completely camouflaged testing model, while it was checking out its new engine. Yes, the 2018 Acura RDX will get one more option under the hood. That’s not all because Honda’s luxury division also prepares a ton of new technologies for the premium compact crossover.
2018 Acura RDX: Engine Options and Fuel Economy
The amazing SUV will definitely keep its current 3.5-liter SOHC i-VTEC V6 engine. The unit comes equipped with Variable Cylinder Management producing a peak output of 279 horsepower and 252 lb.-ft. of torque. According to the manufacturer, the front-wheel drive model will be rated at 20 mpg in the city and 28 mpg on the highway, for a 23-mpg combined rating. On the other hand, the al-wheel drive system achieves 19 mpg in the city and 27 mpg on the highway, for a 22-mpg combined rating.
As we said already, the 2018 RDX will get one more option. It’s not official yet, but we can bet it is going to be a new 2.0-liter turbocharged unit. Unofficially, the engine will deliver at least 230 horsepower, which is less from the V6 mill. Still, it’s good enough for decent performance. There is one another word that claims that the carmaker thinks of introducing the 2018 Acura RDX Hybrid. Even though there is nothing official, it makes sense, because the 2.0-liter unit might be backed up with an electric motor. Plus, most of the rivals have something similar in the offer, so why would Acura miss the chance to make some extra money?
Changes and Equipment
Anyway, the spy shots can’t tell us what’s new beneath. However, we suppose that the exterior might receive a few new styling cues here and there. When we say here and there, we think on the front and rear ends. This is a mid-cycle refresh, so they won’t change the shape of the crossover without any doubt. Instead, the 2018 RDX will feature an updated grille, perhaps new lights and bumpers, and definitely new wheels. Plus, the manufacturer might add a few new exterior colors.
On the other hand, the interior will receive more important changes. They plan to add an updated infotainment and entertainment, as well as totally new upholstery. The AcuraWatch suite of technologies will become a standard part of every RDX including the base model. The safety suite offers Adaptive Cruise Control, Collision Mitigation Braking System, Forward Collision Warning, Lane Departure Warning, and Lane Keeping Assist System.
Starting Price and Release Date
Judging by the latest reports, the updated 2018 Acura RDX will be introduced pretty soon, so it should hit the U.S. dealerships in the coming months. The base 3.5-liter model has been priced already and you will have to set aside $35,800.
