The new generation Honda Odyssey should come very soon, possibly in early 2018 we might see the all-new model. The minivan is going to get a completely redesigned body, yet only updated powertrain and platform. However, the 2017 Honda Odyssey could also get significantly better tech, premium interior styling, and possibly a hybrid drivetrain.
2017 Honda Odyssey: Redesign and Changes
We already saw several testing models of the redesigned Odyssey minivan. Since all were wrapped into the heavy camouflage we can just guess what will be under. Still, according to the newest reports, the popular minivan might look more dynamic that before, and especially in the front end. The biggest influence on the styling will have the new Pilot SUV. This means that we can expect pretty the same grille and headlights, as well as ultra-aggressive bumper. The rear end seems to have totally different hatch, and likely more pronounced bumper styling. Of course, Honda will also add totally new taillights and new exhaust tips.
Platform and Powertrain Details
Like we said, the 2017 Odyssey will likely use the updated version of the platform. Until now, the minivan was borrowing the architecture from the Pilot, and since the SUV got the updated one, there is no chance that the new generation Odyssey features something else. Still, no matter it will be “just” a bit changed, the underpinning could essentially improve the car, especially if the carmaker adds a battery pack for the hybrid version.
Speaking of the engine, the most probable option will be the boosted 3.5-liter engine. The V6 mill will produce about 290 horsepower and 270 lb-ft of torque. It will be matted to the new ZF-sourced nine-speed automatic transmission. In case the carmaker decides to add some kind of electric motor, the upcoming minivan might deliver more power than we expected. In any case, it will definitely get better fuel economy than its predecessor. The amazing family hauler will likely use front-wheel drive setup only. In case they decide to introduce the hybrid drivetrain, there will be the AWD model as well.
Estimated Price and Arrival
If the rumors are correct, the 2017 Honda Odyssey should arrive before the end of this year. This means it will be introduced at this year Los Angeles Auto Show. If not, we will have to wait for the 2018. Both way, you can expect very similar starting price of around $30,000, as well as the Touring model that will cost over $40,000.
