2017 Honda Fit: Engine and Fuel Economy

The 2017 Fit comes with single engine option, but there is no need for anything else because the unit works flawless. It is a 1.5-liter 4-cylinder engine that delivers 130 horsepower and 114 pound-feet of torque. The mill is boosted with DOHC cylinder head and i-VTEC & VTC valve and timing controls, but it also features direct fuel injection, which makes is ultra-efficient. Speaking of which, when it uses a CVT the fuel economy is estimated at 33/40/36 mpg city/highway/combined, while the six-speed manual stops at 29/36/32. We can’t say that the new Fit features impeccable performance, but it’s pretty solid, yet not good as we used to. This is because the handling that’s still decent, but not class leading as it was.

Styling, Advantages and Flaws

As for the styling, the 2017 Honda Fit isn’t some aggressive or ultra-dynamic hatchback, but it’s quite handsome little car. The exterior sports more conventional lines than before, but the hatch is still pretty different from its rivals. The front end features stubby hood, yet aggressive grille and quite inspiring headlights. The bumper gets pretty large air intake and small rounded for lamps. Around back, the new Fit looks really good and completely redesigned. There are also totally new taillights which might be borrowed from Volvo. You can choose between standard 15-inch and optional 16-inch alloy wheels.

The interior of the car is really something. It features plenty of leg and head space which is achieved with different chassis that enable the fuel tank to be placed under the front seats. This way, the hatchback gets class-leading interior, which can easily compete with some crossovers. Honda’s “Magic Seats” are really amazing, because of the rear seats that feature split-folding setup. For instance, when the seats are folded down you will get an amazing cargo space of around 53 cubic feet.

Fit’s tech department is pretty solid, but not the best we saw. The manufacturer added infotainment and navigation systems, which is good thing if you choose an optional 7.0-inch touchscreen. Still, altogether, the system is pretty confusing and slow responding. Except of that, the 2017 Fit lacks some these days usual systems like Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, as well as a bigger number of standard safety features.
